What counts as a line
One line is one thing a person, a site or a system uses to connect, with its own monthly charge. We count what's in service, not how the carrier lays out the bill.
One line each
- Mobile lines, including tablets, hotspots and data-only SIMs
- Landlines, including fax, alarm and elevator lines
- Hosted phone seats
- Voice trunks (SIP or PRI), whatever their number of channels
- Internet and data circuits
Phone numbers, in blocks
Every 25 phone numbers (DIDs and toll-free numbers) count as one line, rounded up across your organization: 1 to 25 numbers are 1 line, 26 to 50 are 2. A mobile line's or landline's own number isn't counted again.
Never counted
- Extensions behind your own phone system
- Devices and hardware
- Features and add-ons, such as voicemail, roaming and travel passes
- Shared data pools (each SIM on the pool counts)
- One-time charges, credits, taxes and fees
- AI seats and cloud accounts (they're part of AI and cloud spend)
Example: a SIP trunk with 45 DIDs is 3 lines
1 for the trunk, plus 45 numbers in blocks of 25 (2). It's the same 3 whether the bill lists the 45 numbers one by one or prints “45 DIDs”.
More examples, and how to see your own count, in the help centre: What counts as a line.
